Electrolytes: sodium/potassium, calcium/magnesium. Having the right balance of these 4 things is imperative to safe, effective living and training. Sodium and Potassium control the amount of water present in every cell (which is needed for chemical and electrical transportation in the body). Sodium controls how much water is imported into the cell(s), potassium controls the amount of water exported from the cell(s). A healthy balance of these two things in the body will yield a healthy balance of the water inherent in every cell, organ, and tissue of the body. Calcium and Magnesium control the contraction and release of our muscles. Calcium controls muscle contraction, everything from lifting objects, running, using the bathroom, etc. Magnesium controls the release of the muscle fibers form contraction. If you flex a muscle, then release it, magnesium controls that release and relaxation.
